Five new BYD models are available with dual-motor AWD for export: the Han EV, Seal, Tang EV, Sealion 7, and Shark. Dual-motor AWD puts a motor on both axles instead of one, splitting power between front and rear wheels for stronger traction, faster acceleration, and more stable handling on wet, gravel, or uneven road surfaces — a genuine advantage for export markets where road conditions are less consistent than in China's domestic market. Below is how the five AWD models compare on range, price, and which buyer each one fits.
AWD model comparison
- Han EV — executive sedan — 85.4 kWh, 715 km range, AWD — ¥209,800-279,800 (~$29,139-$38,861 FOB) — MOQ 5
- Seal — mid-size sedan — 82.5 kWh, 650 km range, RWD or AWD — ¥182,800-269,800 (~$25,389-$37,472 FOB) — MOQ 5
- Sealion 7 — mid-size SUV coupe — 82.5 kWh, 616 km range, AWD — ¥189,800-269,800 (~$26,361-$37,472 FOB) — MOQ 5
- Tang EV — full-size 7-seat SUV — 86.4 kWh, 505 km range, AWD — ¥239,800-279,800 (~$33,306-$38,861 FOB) — MOQ 5
- Shark — mid-size PHEV pickup — 29.58 kWh, ~100 km EV range plus extended combined range, AWD DM-o — ¥228,800-238,800 (~$31,778-$33,167 FOB) — MOQ 5
Why buyers ask for AWD specifically
Dual-motor AWD matters for export buyers for three practical reasons rather than just performance bragging rights. First, traction: a front and rear motor working together grips better on wet asphalt, loose gravel, or light snow than a single-motor FWD setup, which matters in markets with unpaved roads or seasonal weather. Second, acceleration and overtaking safety: AWD BYD models accelerate noticeably faster than their single-motor counterparts, which buyers in markets with two-lane highways and limited overtaking room value for safety as much as performance. Third, towing and load capability: the Shark's AWD DM-o system in particular is built for genuine towing and off-road use, which is why it sees the strongest demand from agricultural and mining buyers in Latin America and Africa.
Sedan AWD: Han EV and Seal
The Han EV is BYD's flagship executive sedan and the longest-range model in this entire comparison at 715 km, pairing that range with AWD as standard across its higher trims. The Seal offers a choice between RWD and AWD depending on trim and budget, giving buyers a lower entry price if they do not need dual-motor performance, with the AWD Performance variant reaching up to ¥269,800. Buyers choosing between the two are usually deciding between maximum range and flagship positioning (Han EV) versus a sportier mid-size sedan with the flexibility to order RWD for a lower price point (Seal).
SUV and pickup AWD: Sealion 7, Tang EV, Shark
The Sealion 7 brings AWD to a coupe-styled mid-size SUV body with 616 km range, the second-longest range of any AWD model here. The Tang EV is the only 7-seat option, trading some range (505 km) for interior volume and third-row seating, with AWD standard across the model. The Shark stands apart from the other four — it is not a battery-electric AWD system but a plug-in hybrid DM-o AWD drivetrain, combining electric torque with combustion range for buyers who need AWD traction on routes without reliable charging, which is why it remains the top AWD request from Latin American and African buyers specifically.
How to choose

- SUV coupe styling with strong range: Sealion 7
- Three-row AWD SUV: Tang EV
- AWD pickup for regions with limited charging infrastructure: Shark
