The BYD Yuan UP is one of the most frequently requested compact electric SUVs among our import buyers, and the first question almost every buyer asks is the same: should I order new, or take a verified used unit? The right answer depends on your budget, your timeline, and how much residual battery life you are comfortable buying into. This article lays out the decision framework we walk every buyer through.
The Price Gap
New BYD Yuan UP units export in the ¥79,800–¥99,800 factory price range, depending on trim and battery configuration, with no minimum order quantity and a typical production lead time of 30 days. A verified used Yuan UP - for example, a 2023 unit with roughly 17,800 km on the odometer, 96% battery state of health (SoH), and one prior owner in clean condition - typically trades at somewhere in the region of 55-65% of the equivalent new list price. That gap is the single biggest lever in this decision: on a multi-unit order, choosing used can free up significant capital for a larger fleet, additional units, or working capital elsewhere in your supply chain.
- New: ¥79,800–¥99,800 factory price, 5, 30-day lead time, full factory warranty from zero km.
- Used (representative unit): 2023 model year, 17,800 km, 96% SoH, 1 owner, clean condition, available for near-term shipment.
Warranty: Full Term vs. Remaining Balance
A new Yuan UP ships with BYD's full factory warranty: 6 years / 150,000 km on the vehicle and 8 years / 150,000 km on the Blade Battery, both starting from zero. That is the maximum coverage window available and it travels with the vehicle from first registration in the destination market.
A used Yuan UP carries the remaining balance of that same original warranty term, calculated from the vehicle's original first-registration date and mileage - not from the date you import it. A 2023 unit with 17,800 km, for instance, still has the large majority of its 6-year/150,000 km vehicle term and 8-year/150,000 km battery term left to run, but the exact remaining coverage depends on the individual unit's documented history. We confirm and share the precise remaining-coverage figure for any specific used unit before you commit to an order, rather than quoting a generic estimate.
Lead Time: Built-to-Order vs. Ready-to-Ship
New units are built to order, which means a roughly 30-day production lead time before the vehicles are ready for export, on top of shipping transit. Used units are already built and, once inspection and documentation are complete, generally move to shipment faster because there is no production queue to wait through. If your buyer or fleet has a hard delivery deadline, the used-unit timeline is often the deciding factor even before price enters the conversation.
Which Option Fits Your Order
As a general rule: new makes sense when you need a specific trim or color configuration, want the full warranty term for resale confidence in your destination market, or are placing a large enough order (at or above the MOQ of 5) that the lead time is manageable within your sales cycle. Used makes sense when you need units sooner than a 30-day build cycle allows, want to lower the landed cost per unit for a price-sensitive market, or are testing a new market with a smaller trial order before committing to new-unit volumes.
The 96% SoH and single-owner history on the representative used Yuan UP above is a strong profile - this is not a vehicle showing meaningful battery fade, and the low mileage relative to model year suggests light use. That said, every used unit we offer is inspected and reported individually; SoH, mileage, and ownership history vary unit to unit, and we do not batch-quote used inventory without a specific battery health report attached.
