The pre-export inspection process for a used BYD runs through four stages: sourcing and initial screening of the vehicle, a diagnostic scan covering battery State of Health and ECU mileage data, a mechanical and cosmetic inspection, and compilation of a full documentation package that you review and sign off on before the vehicle is released for shipment. Each stage exists to catch a different category of issue before it becomes your problem after the vehicle has already left the country of origin.
Step 1 — Sourcing and initial screening
Vehicles are sourced and screened for basic eligibility before any formal inspection begins — this includes confirming the vehicle's title/ownership status is clear, that it matches the general specification requested, and that there are no immediately visible red flags that would disqualify it from export consideration. Vehicles that don't pass this initial screen are not carried forward into the inspection process.
Step 2 — Diagnostic scan
A diagnostic tool is connected to the vehicle's Battery Management System and other onboard electronic control units to capture battery State of Health, cell balance data, any historical fault codes, and ECU-logged mileage. This scan is what produces the SoH percentage and mileage-verification data shown on the vehicle's condition report — it's an objective, tool-generated reading rather than a subjective assessment.
Step 3 — Mechanical and cosmetic inspection
- Exterior condition — paint, panel alignment, any signs of prior collision repair
- Interior condition — upholstery, controls, general wear consistent with stated mileage
- Mechanical systems relevant to the vehicle's drivetrain and running gear
- Cross-check of odometer reading against ECU-logged mileage and available service records
- Accident history assessment based on inspection findings and available records
Findings from this stage populate the cosmetic and condition-report notes buyers see alongside the battery and mileage data.
Step 4 — Documentation package and buyer sign-off
Once inspection is complete, a documentation package is compiled: the condition report (mileage, SoH, accident history note, cosmetic notes, service records, owner count), masked VIN, and photos on request. This package is what you review before finalizing your order. Upon deal confirmation, the full VIN and ownership transfer documents are released, and you have the opportunity to raise any final questions before the vehicle is scheduled for shipment.
Buyer sign-off is a deliberate checkpoint — it's your last opportunity to confirm the vehicle matches your expectations before it moves into logistics. If anything in the documentation package doesn't match what was originally represented, this is the stage to flag it, not after the vehicle has already been loaded for shipment.
Once you sign off, we move to arranging freight and handling the export documentation needed on our end; your landed cost — FOB price plus fixed freight, insurance, destination duty and VAT, and clearance — should already be confirmed with you before this stage so there are no surprises at your end.
