Yes, the BYD e2 is a good fit for importers who need an entry-level EV hatchback with a bit more car than the Seagull, without stepping up to a compact SUV price point. It is a compact electric hatchback with a 405 km CLTC range built for one job: getting new buyers into an EV at a genuinely affordable price.
What the e2 is and who it suits
The e2 sits just above the Seagull in BYD's export lineup, offering a larger hatchback body and more conventional five-door proportions. It suits distributors who need a genuine entry-price EV hatchback above the Seagull, budget-conscious private buyers making their first EV purchase, and urban fleet operators running short daily routes.
Battery, range and drivetrain
The e2 uses a 47.09 kWh battery delivering a CLTC-rated range of 405 km, paired with a front-wheel-drive single motor. That range is more than sufficient for urban daily driving and short-haul fleet routes, which is where most e2 export demand comes from.
Trims and factory pricing
The e2 is offered in two export trims:
- Chic — the entry trim, focused on core range and equipment
- Flagship — the higher trim with expanded comfort and tech features
Factory pricing ranges from ¥89,800 to ¥109,800. Converted to an indicative FOB price (factory price ÷ 7.2), that's roughly $12,472 to $15,250 per unit before freight, insurance, duty, VAT and clearance.
Estimating your landed cost
To model your landed cost, start with the FOB price and add a fixed $1,450 international freight charge, insurance at 1.1% of the FOB value, your destination country's import duty rate applied to the CIF value, VAT at your local rate applied to CIF plus duty, and a fixed $650 clearance fee. Actual totals depend on your destination country's duty and VAT structure, so we always run a country-specific landed cost calculation before quoting.
Colors, MOQ and lead time
The e2 is available in three exterior colors for export: Skiing White, Cosmos Black, and Sunrise Orange. The minimum order quantity is 5 units, with a production and export lead time of 30 days. Both left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive builds are available for export order.
Warranty coverage
Every new e2 carries BYD's standard new-energy vehicle warranty: 6 years or 150,000 km on the vehicle, and 8 years or 150,000 km on the Blade Battery pack. Entry-price positioning does not reduce the warranty coverage in any way.
Why the e2 fills the budget-hatchback gap
The question we get most often about the e2 is how it compares to the cheaper Seagull. In short, the e2 is the step up for buyers who want a slightly larger hatchback body and more conventional proportions, while the Seagull remains the absolute entry point on price. Because the e2 shares major components with other BYD compact EVs, dealers who already stock parts inventory for the Seagull or Dolphin typically find e2 after-sales support straightforward to set up.
